Ingredients

The ingredient list features glucose oxidase. Is this a sugar?

No, glucose oxidase is not a sugar but an enzyme activated by glucose from food and drinks. During this process, your mouth’s glucose levels actually drop, as the glucose is consumed by the enzyme. Glucose oxidase is safe for natural teeth.

Some bioXtra products contain limonene, a common allergen. Can I use those products?
Regarding skin allergy, the presence of limonene does not have much relevance in the oral cavity. If you eat an orange or drink orange juice, the concentration of limonene in the mouth and on the lips is much higher.
However, if you have a known allergy to limonene, avoid using the bioXtra products that contain it (our Ultra Mild Mouthrinse and the Mild Toothpaste). You can safely use our Dry Mouth Gel and Gel Mouthspray.
Always consult a specialists if you have concerns.

Safety

Do I need a prescription for bioXtra?

No, bioXtra products are available without a prescription.

What does the "medical device" and "MD" symbol mean on the bioXtra products?
The Medical Devices Directive (MDD) has recently been replaced by the new Medical Device Regulation (MDR). bioXtra’s Dry Mouth Gel, Gel Mouthspray, and Ultra Mild Mouthrinse are classified as Class IIa medical devices under the new MDR regulation. The bioXtra range is the first European range of dry mouth products to have successfully passed this transition. A quality management system has been set up to manage production in this product category, and the technical file supports the safety, efficacy, and claims.

With the new MDR regulation, oral care products are either classified as Class IIa, with an annual surveillance audit by a notified body, or the products are classified as cosmetics, in which case they may not be associated with medical claims in any shape or form.

You can recognize an MDR-classified medical device by the “MD” symbol on the box.

Can I use bioXtra products if I have damaged mucosa in my mouth?

bioXtra products have been evaluated as safe if they come into contact with damaged or compromised mucosa. If you experience stinging or any unpleasant sensation, rinse your mouth thoroughly and avoid using the product until the mucosa has fully healed.

bioXtra Mild Toothpaste

Why does bioXtra Mild Toothpaste have a low foaming effect?
bioXtra Mild Toothpaste is SLS-free. SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate) is a detergent that—in some cases—can cause painful spots (aphthous ulcers) in the mouth. In those suffering from dry mouth, these problems occur more frequently due to the lack of natural protective properties normally present in saliva. Using bioXtra Mild Toothpaste may help reduce the onset of aphthous ulcers.
However, “low foaming” does not mean “less cleaning.” bioXtra Mild Toothpaste leaves teeth and gums feeling fresh and healthy.

bioXtra Ultra Mild Mouth Rinse

Do I have to rinse with water after rinsing with bioXtra Ultra Mild Mouthrinse?

No. After swishing, spit and do not rinse with water. This allows you to maximize the benefits of the enzymes present in the mouthrinse. Also avoid drinking and brushing your teeth just after rinsing.

bioXtra Ultra Mild Mouthrinse contains 1450 ppm fluoride. Do not exceed 5 times per day.

Do not keep diluted solutions.
